Just the ticket
I purchased this book for my son and his friends to use in preparation for the PSAT. This book was very helpful for them and they plan on using it for the next few years.

Study material and sample questions are extremely helpful
This is an excellent study guide for Juniors and seniors. My daughter is a junior and she is preparing to take the test. I made her study guides based off this book.

Practice tests divided - math and language arts
This is not a test strategy or book to get around learning what you should know. They are practice tests designed to simulate taking the exams. You can determine where you are weak and go elsewhere (such as your Algebra textbook) to learn the material. We do homeschool and don't do standardized testing. This helps learning the standardized process and putting time limits also simulates the extra pressure and stress of the clock. Would be better if it pointed you to where you could learn the material you are weak in.

Helpful for review depending on the child
It sat on my child's shelf who was not motivated to prepare. The content is good.

Well designed study/practice approach for the PSATs
It's been about four decades since I took the PSAT, and back then Barron's was about the only study guide worth thinking about. Now there are several guides available, including this one from Kaplan. I was impressed that the text provides well-written explanations for each correct answer as well as sufficient introductory material to refresh a student's memory regarding each topic. The information in the text plus additional material available online is plenty to keep a student busy for PSAT study. With the test usually administered in October, it's best to start studying in August and to go slowly but steadily through the material, particularly given the usual junior year workload that is ongoing at the same time. If you study hard for the PSAT, it gives you an excellent idea as to where you need to focus your energy for the SAT. If you don't study, you'll have a baseline, but that is somewhat less important. It's also less important to have multiple study guides than it is to use one thoroughly. Kaplan's text is a perfectly acceptable study guide to choose. My approach, which served me well, was to save the big practice tests until one week prior to the actual exam, then use the last week to study/re-study the material that gave me problems on the practice tests.

HUGE
PSAT prep, well, this book is huge and intimidating. My daughter freaked out when I gave it to her. I am sure it is a great book, but man, way to scare a kid. It has practice tests and online stuff too. I wish I had gotten this months ago. It is only about 3 weeks until the PSATs and my daughter is feeling overwhelmed by this book. Not sure how much it will improve her score, but it can’t hurt, right.

PSAT Time! Tips from a prof to get the most out of your practice testing
I’m a college professor so looking forward to seeing you in class soon! It’s also the first time for the PSAT testing prep for our family--our kids rightly get no break for their dad being an inside guy. The Kaplan guides are practical and easy to use with a very generous amount of large pages that leave room for liner notes. The book is as thick as an old-fashioned phone book and represents a very fair value. Keep in mind that this guide changes little year to year so if you have a recent version, no need to also pick up the 2020.This PSAT Prep 2020 guide gives two helpful practice tests and solid strategy advice. Close to the real test and confidence building. Our family wishes you and yours the best of luck on your test! Hope you’ll wish the same for us, too.
