Vandoren CM4018 13 Series 5RV Profile 88 Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece

My dumb cat broke my last one. So I bought a new one. It’s good 👍🏻

Before I had a premier by hite mouthpiece(my original mouthpiece for 3 years. My original broke when I dropped my clarinet in fourth grade). This was a major upgrade. I love the ebonite sound and it accompanied by a rovner 1R ligature. I tried to be unbiased so I looked for many mouthpieces. In the store this mouthpiece cost around $86. When I made my mind I decided to buy it. This is now my concert mouthpiece. For marching band I will continue to use my premier by hite mouthpiece. No use getting this one destroyed by harsh weather. I loved this mouthpiece and I hope you do to. When I bought it, it came 4 days earlier Best of luck buyers

This is a "professional" (meaning??) mouthpiece, likely best for players with developed embouchures. Hard reeds are recommended (Nos. 3 1/2 to 4 1/2), and these are difficult for beginning players. A good mouthpiece,if you know exactly what you want.

I read many reviews on many different mouthpieces and liked what I read about the Vandoren 5RV mouthpiece. I have not been disapointed to date. A little pricey, but worth the money.

Same great quality as the one we priced at the local music store - but at a fraction of the price we were quoted....Amazing!

Professional Clarinetist Here. I see that a lot of the reviews are written by students or parents of students and this is a bit of a lack of experienced opinions. The 5RV is an excellent mouthpiece for intermediate to advanced students (advanced middle school through high school and into college), and is one of the longtime standards for that bracket. This is not a "professional" mouthpiece, nor is it really meant for beginners. It works best with size 3-3.5 reeds. The "lyre" version is for slightly less developed players in my opinion as it has a more open tip, which requires softer reeds and offers less control over the sound. Beginners in their first few years really do best to stick with the basic student mouthpieces as expensive equipment is not a shortcut to the hard work of practicing and developing their sound, embouchure, and technique. A student with a few years of experience (>3), who plays with a full sound, who is able to play easily in the altimissimo range, will benefit from upgrading to a mouthpiece like this or another similar one that their private teacher may recommend.

I bought this to replace an identical mouthpiece that became worn after several years of use. This new mouthpiece appears of identical quality to last time I bought one. It came in the original box with foam packing. It arrived in excellent condition and in a timely manner.

Works well in combination with high end clarinets. Ordered a second one for a student model Yamaha with the same result. Found that the mouthpiece required a slightly stiffer reed to sound its best.
