Very good does the job perfectly
have converted 8mm and super 8 cine film and all is very good - have used big 7 inch reels and they worked fine - it’s worth reading the instruction book about adjusting frame size plus left and right to get the film perfect - very impressed with quality lots better than trying to film with a projector ! This model is different to others on Amazon they look the same but are not! so i would advise you to get this model as it works well

You need to persevere……..
This is a great piece of kit, but you need to persevere with it. The instructions are translated from another language (I’d guess Chinese) and are pretty much unintelligible. I’d say it took me at least 10 reels before I got good at it. However, if you keep at it, you get great results. I converted about 100 reels from the 70’s and 80’s my late dad had filmed and considering the age of the films, they are terrific. I’ve since burned to dvd with a ♫ soundtrack and they are really good. You need to be aware that it’s really slow as it digitises every single frame. I’d say it takes about 12 times longer to digitise than to watch. Also, it’s very unforgiving if you have any poor quality splicing of reels (although you just need to stop it and move the reel on and start again. It has really good functionality for readjusting your reel into the frame but I found this by trial and error rather than what’s on the instructions. Finally, it provides a couple of adapters to move between 8mm and super 8 reels. These are useless. I found one on my dads old stuff and it worked a treat. If you have a large volume of reels, it’s much cheaper than paying to have them converted (which remains eye wateringly expensive, probably due to the time it takes). However, overall as long as you have patience, it does the job really well.

This is OK if you persevere
The media could not be loaded. I was all ready to return this after a few failed attempts but I stuck with it and tried again and again til I managed to get it working.A lot seems to be down to the film itself as I’ve got great results from some, and yet other films which appear to be exactly the same type and format struggle to give a stable image. The frames can get stuck for no apparent reason which leads me to think that the sprocket mechanism is not well made and for a few pounds more the manufacturer could have produced a better device to give more reliable and consistent results. For me it’s worked best with standard8 film and less reliably with super8. Having said that 80% of the super8 film I’ve put through it has come out well, with other films giving good results after a 2nd or 3rd attempt at capturing them… and some just not working well at all. I did make sure to fully wind and rewind the films before starting the copying process to avoid any drag caused by films left tightly wound onto their spools for the last 40 years.Overall this is a good device which I wish was better, but the enjoyment of memories from a lifetime ago are worth the effort to recover them.

Scratches the original film!!
It looked like a good thing to buy. Thought about it for a long time.I tried a 50ft super 8 film to try it out. Seemed OK.Then a longer reel of 200 to 300 ft. seemed to perform Ok again apart from sticking on a splice and then not properly saving the file it was creating. It created it but did not save it properly. 'File error'.Decided to go through that reel using my old editor unit and horror upon horrors SAW VERTICAL SCRATCHES on the screen which were NOT there before!!!. A film from 1978 RUINED!!!Checked the 50foot film as well. SAME RESULT!! SCRATCHED!!It has to happen in the projection gate or the scanner gate. I'm not going to try to fix it. It is going back with the advice to EVERYONE to give this item a wide berth. It won't be seeing anymore of my precious films!A couple of other thingsThe 3 clips the film has to go under to hold it down in the display and scan head all are supposed to be white. NO!The middle one is white the outside ones are black so not really noticeable. The reel shaft plates are not the same. And a reel on take-up or supply duty can work its way off then and ruin your film. This is not an item to leave unattended and assume it will be fine.My film reels play through my projector okay but the splices can cause this thing to stick and need a bit of help to overcome.Very disappointed. Will look elsewhere.

working solution to keep your 8mm/ super8
The price tag is decent, and you need to get it time to learn to avoid to much stutter and jumps when placing the reel uncorrect, but you find out after a while, a need in post to stabilize the results most of the time or very often ( freeware, both Win and OSX is out there that does that great), but it is in the end a valuable product , it feels plastic and fragile, but does the job. You find also tutorials and tips on the net for this product.
