Champignon, or white button, mushrooms are the most frequently used of all mushrooms. Cultivated by the French since the 1700's the Champignon has a mild flavor and firm texture. Dried Champignon look, cook and taste just like their fresh form.

Keep these on the kitchen counter so they'll be handy
Not like fresh mushrooms. But, vastly better than canned mushrooms. The rehydrate quickly enough. In soups the mushrooms are a bit chewy feeling... not bad just not like a fresh mushroom. The flavor is good enough... can not tell the difference between these and fresh. I will be buying more.Tip: if you want cut up mushroom pieces - just crunch them in a bowl while they are still dry. They break easy into small pieces. The rehydrate the small pieces. Saves you from having to cut them with a knife.Update 3-20-2015: Really liked having these in the kitchen. Used them for everything from eggs to soups. Went to reorder and found the price went up 400% - ouch! May not buy again based on just price.

Great Value
Such a bargain when you can't keep fresh shrooms around and all you have to do is keep a jar full of shrooms and water in the fridge to add to a recipe as you need to. Great flavor for soups and, really, anything that requires a little flavor enhancement. I love it.

Best mushroom buy
Once rehydrated these taste like canned button mushrooms. Outstanding for cooking, not so good for salads. be forewarned, 5 lbs is a great bargain but also a LOT of mushrooms.

It's a bit deceptive to sell these dried mushrooms as "champignon" mushrooms
"Champignon" just means "mushroom" in the French language. Therefore, Mushroom House could put any species of mushroom inside of this bag. Using the internet, typing in "champignon" into the Google search bar will result in a colorful display of all species of mushrooms, including poisonous mushrooms! However, the cheapest species of all edible mushrooms - Agaricus bisporus (white button mushrooms) - would probably be chosen to be sold as "champignon" mushrooms. [Five pounds of chanterelle mushrooms would have to be sold for more than $200.00].Like all edible mushrooms, this product is certain to be extremely healthy for us to eat and certain to help us live much longer if we eat it regularly. However, a 24-ounce package of fresh, raw white button mushrooms can be purchased at Costco or Sam's Club for only $6.99 each. It's a good idea to boil white button mushrooms before eating them because boiling greatly reduces the amount of the cancer-causing mycochemical, agaritine, which is contained in white button mushrooms [Agaricus bisporus], crimini mushrooms [Agaricus bisporus], portabella mushrooms [Agaricus bisporus], and also the Brazilian "Mushroom of God" mushrooms [Agaricus blazei]. Also, boiling kills the bad bacteria in horse manure, which is used by mushroom farmers to cause all Agaricus species mushrooms to grow much faster. With shiitake mushrooms, however, the fresh shiitakes are even healthier for us to eat than the dried shiitakes, which are extremely healthy for us to eat too. Fresh, raw shiitake mushrooms are grown in Oregon and can be purchased at health food stores nationwide for about $15.99 per pound. Fresh, raw shiitakes contain much higher amounts [about 20 times more] of the beneficial anti-cancer mycochemical, lentinan, than dried shiitakes.Unlike poisonous mushrooms, which can grow on almost any species of trees (including conifers such as Christmas trees, pine trees, Douglas firs, Noble firs, cedars, spruces, larches, and hemlocks), shiitakes can only grow on oak trees, maple trees, and ironwood trees. Hence the Japanese name: "shii" (oak tree) and "take" (mushroom).

Awesome deal! Excellent product!
These mushrooms have a great flavor and the price is unbelievable too. Most mushrooms cost 4x this much at least. The individual pieces are thick (most of them are anyway) and a lot of full pieces too. Very easy to break into pieces if you like them smaller. Awesome stock up item abs would make a great gift.
